Firearms Licensing
Wilsons Hunting & Outdoors is a licensed firearms dealer. The sale and supply of firearms, ammunition and related restricted items in New Zealand is governed by the Arms Act 1983, and we follow that process carefully. This page explains what happens when you buy a restricted item from us.
You must hold a valid New Zealand firearms licence
Firearms and ammunition can only be sold to a person who holds a current, valid New Zealand firearms licence of the appropriate class for the item. The responsibility to verify this sits with us as the dealer, and we take it seriously.
How the process works
- Place your order as normal. You can add a restricted item to your cart and complete checkout like any other product. At checkout you will be asked to confirm that you hold a valid New Zealand firearms licence.
- Your order is placed on hold. Restricted items are not dispatched straight away. Your order is automatically held pending verification.
- We contact you to verify your licence. A member of our team will get in touch to confirm your firearms licence details and complete the required NZ Police mail order form for the sale.
- Transfer and collection. Once verification is complete, the item is transferred in accordance with the Arms Act — Sent to a licensed dealer near you for collection.
- Dispatch or collection. Your item is only released once all of the above is complete.
What you will need
- A current, valid New Zealand firearms licence of the appropriate class.
- Firearms Licence identification when collecting.
